The first equation is 5a - 14 = 80 + 4

5a - 14 = 8a+4

collect the like terms

5a - 14 = 8a + 4

5a - 8a = 4 + 14

a(5-8) = 18

a(-3) = 18

-3a = 18

to find a divide both sides by -3

-3a/-3 = 18/-3

a = 18/-3

a = -6

second equation

9c - 3c = 48

c is common, so we can factorize out c

c(9 - 3) = 48

c(6) = 48

6c = 48

divide both sides by 6

6c / 6 = 48/6

c = 48/6

c = 8

the answer is a = -6 and c = 6
