So first add and subtract so that the r terms are only on one side of the equation.

rx - st = r

+st +st

rx = r + st

-r -r

rx - r = st Then factor out r.

r(x - 1) = st Then divide by (x-1) to get the r all by itself.

r(x - 1)/(x-1) = st/(x-1)

r = st/(x - 1)

r is s times t over x-1
