the given expression is

-9x + y = 14 ( 1 )

4x - 8y = 24 ( 2 )

to simplify the (2)

4x - 8y = 24

divide by 4

x -2y = 6 ( 3 )

the system of equation, appy substitution method :

Solve the equation ( 3 ) for x

x - 2y = 6

x = 6 + 2y

Substitute the value of x in the equation ( 1 )

-9x + y = 14

-9(6 + 2y) + y = 14

-54 -18y +y = 14

-17y = 14 + 54

-17y = 68

y = -68/17

y = -4

substitute the value of y = ( - 4) in the equation ( 3 )

x - 2y = 6

x -2( -4) = 6

x + 8 = 6

x = 6 - 8

x = ( - 2 )

Answer : x = ( - 2 ) and y = ( - 4 )
