The coach of Esther's soccer team always gives the team a few options for the warm-up before practice. The option for today is to run from opposite corners of the soccer field (diagonally) 6 times or from end to end of the soccer field length-wise 7 times. The first option is to run 6 diagonal runs. The second option is to run 7 field runs. Which option will give Esther the greatest distance?

Given: A field with dimensions 125 m by 85 m. Ester has two options: run diagonally 6 times or 7 times from end to end.

Required: To determine which option will give Ester greater distance.

Explanation: The length of the diagonal of the field can be determined by the Pythagoras theorem as follows-

Diagonal=√((125)^2+(85)^2)

Further solving-

Diagonal=151.16\text{ m}

Option 1- To run diagonally 6 times will give the total distance as-

151.16*6=906.97\text{ m}

Option 2- To run end to end 7 times will give the total distance as-

125*7=875\text{ m}

Hence, Option 1 to run diagonally will give more distance.

Final Answer: Option 1- To run diagonally 6 times will give more distance.
