1) We need to first understand what the vertex is. In a parabola, the vertex is either the highest or lowest point. If the parabola is like a mountain (with the peak at the top), then it is the highest point. If the parabola is like a valley (with a divot like point at the lowest part), then the vertex is the lowest point.
