Let the time taken to read the whole be y

If he reads 1/8 of the whole book (x), it can be expressed as,

(1)/(8)\text{ of x =}(1)/(8)* x=(x)/(8)

If it takes Adam to read x/8 of a book in 1/6 hours,

To read the whole book, it will take Adam,

\begin{gathered} Adam\text{ read }(x)/(8)\text{ in }(1)/(6) \\ To\text{ read the whole book (x) in y time} \\ y*(x)/(8)=x*(1)/(6) \\ (xy)/(8)-(x)/(6) \\ \text{Crossmultiply} \\ 6* xy=8x \\ \text{Divide both sides by }6x \\ (6xy)/(6x)=(8x)/(6x) \\ y=(4)/(3)=1(1)/(3)hours \end{gathered}

Hence, it will take 1 1/3 hours for Adam to read the whole book.
