From equation (1), we have

y = 5 - x ----------------------------------------(3)

Substituting equation (3) into equation (2), we have

Therefore

Hence

`\begin{gathered} (x-3)(x+2)=0 \\ \Rightarrow x=3\text{ or -2} \end{gathered}`

When x = 3 and using y = 5 - x

y = 5 - 3 = 2

and when x = -2

y = 5 - (-2) = 5+2=7

Therefore the possible solutions are
