The percent increase is 20% . $300-$250 (=$50) is the difference. You will need to divide that by the original price of 250, which is 2/4, equaling 20%. You can double check this is correct by taking 20% of $250 and adding that to $250 to see if it will equal $300.

1) Since the original price was $250 we can write:

$ %

250------- 100

300 ------ x

2)

And then, we can cross multiply those ratios:

\begin{gathered} (250)/(300)=(100)/(x) \\ 250x=30000 \\ x=(30000)/(250) \\ x=120 \end{gathered}

So 300 corresponds to 120%, But since the question is what percentage was the price increased, Hence:

120-100= 20%

3) So the price was increased by 20
