1. In order to isolate the variable, we need to put one equation into the other.
2x + 5y = 35
x = -10 - 15y
2(-10-15y) + 5y = 35
-20 - 30y + 5y = 35
-20 -25y = 35
-25y = 35 + 20
-25y = 55
Y = -11/5
Now we solve for x and put it back in one of the equations based on our y value.
X = -10-15y
X = -10-15(-11/5)
X = -10+33
X = 23
2. In order to isolate the variable, we need to put one equation into the other.
9x+2y = 24
y = 6x + 19
9x + 2(6x + 19) = 24
9x + 12x + 38 = 24
9x + 12x = -14
21x = -14
X = -2/3
Now we solve for y and put it back in one of the equations based on our y value.
Y = 6x + 19
Y = 6(-2/3) + 19
Y = -12/3 + 19
Y = -4 +19
Y = 15

Answer:

1) x = 23

2) y = 15

Explanation:

I expressed each in standard form and then solved normally :)
