The population of town A is 8 x 10^4

The population of town B is 4 x 10^5

it is required to find,

How many times greater is the population of town B than town A ?

So, divide the population of B by the population of A

So,

(4\cdot10^5)/(8\cdot10^4)=(4\cdot10\cdot10^4)/(8\cdot10^4)=(4\cdot10)/(8)=(40)/(8)=5

so, the answer is option A. 5
