Knowing that AB is parallel to EC, we can say that the proportion between DC and CB is equal to the proportion between DE and EA. Then:

(DC)/(CB)=(DE)/(EA)

Finally, we replace each value:

\begin{gathered} (y)/(8)=(6)/(x) \\ y=(6\cdot8)/(x) \\ \therefore y=(48)/(x) \end{gathered}

Answer: Option a
