Part 25A 140 kg load is attached to a crane, which moves the load vertically. Calculate thetension in the cable for the following case:24. The load accelerates downward at a rate 0.4 m/s225. How far will the load move if it starts from rest and accelerates for 20 seconds?

We know that the acceleration is 0.4 m/s2 which means that we have a constant acceleration. Then we have an uniformly accelerated motion, then we can use the equation:

y=v_0t+(1)/(2)at^2

In this case the initial velocity is zero, the time is 20 seconds and the acceleration is -0.4 m/s2, plugging these values we have:

\begin{gathered} y=(0)(20)-(1)/(2)(0.4)(20)^2 \\ y=-80 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the load will move 80 meters down in twenty seconds.
