we have

x=2a-b^2

x=2a-b^2

solve for a

That means -----> isolate the variable a

step 1

adds b^2 both sides

x+b^2=2a

step 2

Divide by 2 both sides

a=(x+b^2)/2

therefore

the answer is the option 2
