A store has clearance items that have been marked down by 60%. They are having a sale, advertising an additional 20%off clearance items. What percent of the original price do you end up paying?Give your answer accurate to at least one decimal place.

The original value of the items can be called as "x", from that we can calculate the first disccount, which is shown below:


\text{discount}=0.4\cdot x

This is because we need to remove 60 % from the original value, x. After that there was an additional discount of 20%, therefore we have:


\begin{gathered} \text{ final price}=0.8\cdot(0.4)\cdot x \\ \text{ final price}=0.32\cdot x \end{gathered}

The final price is 32% of the original one.
