$8 = (1)/(3) (a + 5) \\ 8 = (1a)/(3) + 1.67 \\ 3 * 8 = (1a)/(3) + 1.67 * 3 \\ 24 = a + 5.01 \\ 24 - 5.01 = a + 5.01 - 5.01 \\ 18.99 = a$
