A city manager made a scatter plot of the number of retail stores in a certain city over the years you scatterplot had a trend line with an equation of y = 11x + 12 where y is the total retail stores and x the number of years since 1990. predict how many retail there were in 1997.

We have the following linear model:

y=11x+12

now, if 'x'is the number of years since 1990, then for 1997, we have that 7 years has passed, then x = 7, and the model would be:

\begin{gathered} x=7 \\ \Rightarrow y=11(7)+12=77+12=89 \\ y=89 \end{gathered}

therefore, there could be 89 retail stores in 1997
