family went on two vacations. the first trip took 3 2/3 hours to drive to Indiana and the second trip took 4 1/2 hours to drive to Michigan. how much longer did it take to drive to Michigan than Indiana?

SOLUTION

From the question given, it means that the trip to Indiana took


3(2)/(3)\text{ hours }

While that of Michigan took


4(1)/(2)\text{ hours }

To find how much longer it took to drive to Michigan than Indiana, we simply subtract. This becomes


4(1)/(2)-3(2)/(3)
