The area of the figure can be found by adding the area of 4 rectangles, as shown below:

The area (A) of a rectangle (R) whose sides are "a" and "b" is A = ab.

So, let's find the areas of each rectangle.

Finding A1:

The measure of the sides of rectangle 1 is 8 and 16.

Then,

A1 = 8*16

A1 = 128 square units

Finding A2:

The measure of the sides of rectangle 2 is 12 (24 - 12) and 16.

Then,

A1 = 12*16

A1 = 192 square units

Finding A3:

The measure of the sides of rectangle 3 is 8 (16 - 8) and 12.

Then,

A3 = 8*12

A3 = 96 square units

Finding A4:

The measure of the sides of rectangle 4 is 12 and 4.

Then,

A4 = 12*4

A4 = 48 square units

The area of the figure is A = A1 + A2 + A3+ A4

A = 128 + 196 + 96 + 48

A = 464 square units.

Answer: The area is 464 square units.
