Question:

A student wants to arrange four points to form a rectangle on a grid. She has already placed points at (-4. 4). (-4, 8). and (4, 8). Where should she place the last point?

Answer:

D = (4,4)

Explanation:

Let the rectangle be ABCD

A = (-4,4)

B= (-4,8)

C = (4,8)

Required

Determine the location of the last point

A rectangle has the following coordinates

A = (x_1,y_1)

B = (x_1,y_2)

C = (x_2,y_2)

D = (x_2,y_1)

From the given coordinates:

x_1 = -4 --- see x coordinates of A and B

x_2 = 4 --- see x coordinates of C

y_1 =4 --- see y coordinates of C

y_2 =8 --- see y coordinates of B and C

So:

D = (x_2,y_1)

x_2 = 4

y_1 =4

The coordinates of the last point (D) is:

D = (4,4)
