To be able to determine the area that is not covered by the pictures, we will be using the following formula:


\text{ Area}_{Not\text{ Covered}}\text{ = Total area of the cardboard - Total area of the pictures}

We get,


\text{ Area}_{Not\text{ Covered}}\text{ = Total area of the cardboard - Total area of the pictures}
\text{ = (20 x 9) - 3(7 x 4)}
\text{ = 180 - 3(28)}
\text{ = 180 - 84}
\text{Area}_{Not\text{ Covered}}=96in^2

Therefore, the area that is not covered is 96 in^2.
