To know how many feet of fence is required, we just have to find the outer perimeter of the rectangle and semicircle and then sum them up.

The perimeter of a semicircle is given by the formula:

Pc=(d)/(2)*\pi

Where d is the diameter of the circle.

The perimeter of a rectangle is given by the formula:

Pr=2l+2w

Where l is the length of the rectangle and 2 is the width of the rectangle, however, in this case, we are not interested in one of the sides (the right side of the rectangle that is next to the semicircle), so we don't take into account one of the widths and use the formula:

Pr=2l+w

From the figure, we know that the diameter of the semicircle equals the width of the rectangle, then if we use the first formula, we get:

Pc=(24)/(2)*3.14=37.68

And for the rectangle, we get:

Pr=2*30+24=84

Then, the total perimeter of the garden (P) equals:

P=Pc+Pr=37.68+841=121.68

Then, 121.68 ft of fence are required
