The given expression is

(5)/(6)-(1)/(4)

To do the subtraction we must equalize the denominators

Since the lowest common multiple of 6 and 4 is 12, then make the denominators = 12

(5)/(6)=(5*2)/(6*2)=(10)/(12)
(1)/(4)=(1*3)/(4*3)=(3)/(12)

Then the expression is

(5)/(6)-(1)/(4)=(10)/(12)-(3)/(12)

Now, we will subtract the numerators

\begin{gathered} (10)/(12)-(3)/(12)=((10-3))/(12)=(7)/(12) \\ (5)/(6)-(1)/(4)=(7)/(12) \end{gathered}
