Okay, here we have this:

We need to calculate the width of a rectangle, considering that the area is 99 square inches, and the lenght is 2 in longer than the width (x), so let's replace in the following formula:

Area of rectangle=Lenght*width

99 square in=(x+2)*(x)

Now, let's solve for x:

99=(x+2)(x)

99=x²+2x

99-99=x²+2x-99

x²+2x-99=0

(x-9)(x+11)=0

x-9=0 or x+11=0

x=9 or x=-11

Here, we obtain two values, and as this measure cannot be negative, we discard -11. Finally we get that the width of the rectangle is 9 inches
