Question:

Solution:

The bottom sides are the same length, then:

2x\text{ +2 = x+11}

putting the similar terms together, we have:

2x\text{ -x = 11-2 }

this is equivalent to:

x\text{ = 9}

now, notice that the topsides are the same length, then:

y-3\text{ = x+2}

replacing x= 9 into the previous equation, we get:

y\text{ - 3 = 9 + 2}

this is equivalent to:

y\text{ -3 = 11}

solving for y, we get:

y\text{ = 11+3 = 14}
