We have to find the slope of a line that is parallel to another line that crosses (2, 4) and has y-intercept (0, -1).

All parallel lines have the same slope, so we can just calculate the slope of the line that crosses through (2,4) and (0,-1).

We then can calculate the slope as:


\begin{gathered} m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1) \\ m=(-1-4)/(0-2)=(-5)/(-2)=2.5 \end{gathered}

Answer: the slope is m = 2.5 or 5/2.
