We would open the bracket on the left hand side multiplying each term inside the bracket by the term outside. Thus, we have

- 2 * x + - 2 * - 5 + 4x = - 14

- 2x + 10 + 4x = - 14

- 2x + 4x = - 14 - 10

2x = - 24

x = - 24/2

x = - 12
