Notice that the two airplanes are flying above the ground; therefore, the position of the first aircraft is given by y_1=13034, while the position of the second one is y_2=18002.

The distance between two points is given by


|y_2-y_1|

Thus,


\Rightarrow distance=|y_2-y_1|=|18002-13034|=|4968|=4968

The vertical distance is 4968ft. The answer is 4968ft
