x = 4, y = 3

Explanantion:

y = x - 1 ...equation 1

2x - 3y = -1 ...equation 2

Substituting x -1 for y in equation 2:

2x - 3(x - 1) = -1

2x - 3x + 3= -1

collect like terms:

-x + 3 = -1

subtract 3 from both sides:

-x + 3 - 3= -1 - 3

-x = -4

divide both sides by -1:

-x/-1 = -4/-1

x = 4

substitute for x in equation 1:

y = 4 - 1

y = 3
