Let the original price = P

The discount means a reduction in price.

Therefore,

\begin{gathered} \text{Discount = 20\% of P} \\ =\text{ 0.2p} \end{gathered}

The equation is P - 0.2P = 96

Selling price = P - 0.2P

96 = 0.8P

P = 96/0.8

P = $120

The original price = $120
