7=-11+3(b+5)

Solve for b:

Expand the right hand side using distributive property:


7=-11+3b+15

Add like terms:


7=3b+4

Subtract 4 from both sides:


\begin{gathered} 7-4=3b+4-4 \\ 3=3b \end{gathered}

Divide both sides by 3:


\begin{gathered} (3)/(3)=(3b)/(3) \\ b=1 \end{gathered}
