Translation 1 unit right of f(x)=8x+9, is it f(x)=8x+10

we know that

The rule of the translation is

(x,y) -------> (x+1,y)

so

f(x)=8x+9

the x-intercept of this line is

0=8x+9

8x=-9

x=-9/8

If the translation is 1 unit to the right

The new x-intercept of the line is

-9/8+1=-9/8+8/8=-1/8

therefore

the equation of the new line is

y=8x+1

Verify with the graph

see the attached figure

please wait a minute

the new equation is y=8x+1

therefore

the answer is

The new equation is not y=8x+10

Another way

f(x)=8x+9

(x,y) ------> (x+1,y)

so

the new equation is

f(x)=8(x-1)+9

f(x)=8x-8+9

f(x)=8x+1

Translation 1 unit right of f(x)=8x+9, is it f(x)=8x+10-example-1
