Using the quadratic formula we get:

$\frac{-7\pm\sqrt[]{7^2-4\cdot2\cdot(-5)}}{2\cdot2}$
$\frac{-7\pm\sqrt[]{49^{}+40}}{4}$
$\frac{-7\pm\sqrt[]{89}}{4}$

So the solutions are:

$x=\frac{-7+\sqrt[]{89}}{4}$

And

$x=\frac{-7-\sqrt[]{89}}{4}$
