When we want to add or subtract radicals, we have to make sure that the indices and what is inside the radical (called the radicand) must be the same.

For example:

2√(a)+2√(a)=4√(a)

Since both indices have the same term inside that is "a"

Another example:

5√(6)-2√(6)=3√(6)

As you can see the number inside the radical was same (6) so we simply did the subtraction (5-2 = 3) and the radical term same as it is.

Let us do one more question from the worksheet.

-11√(21)-11√(21)=-22√(21)

Since -11 and -11 is equal to -22 and the radical term remains the same.
