PART A

The identity property given in the question to verify is:


(\cot x)(\cos x)=\csc x-\sin x

On reviewing both steps, we can see that both students actually verified their work using actual identities. The steps for both are actually identical, both just worked in reverse order.

PART B

For Student A, the first identity he used was in Step 1:


\cot x=(\cos x)/(\sin x)

In Step 3, he applied another identity:


\cos^2x=1-\sin^2x
