To determine which of the 4 jobs should Ricardo choose, we need to solve which one gives the highest rate per hour.

Let's calculate the rate per hour in each job. Let's start with yardwork.

34.50/5hrs=6.9

The rate per hour for yardwork is $6.9 per hr. To be able to get $1000, Ricardo has to work at least 145 hrs.

For babysitting:

31.50/7hr=4.5

The rate for babysitting is $4.5 per hr. To be able to get at least $1000, Ricardo has to work at least 222.22 ≈223 hrs.

For lifeguarding:

23.10/3hrs=7.7

The rate for lifeguarding is $7.7 per hr. To be able to get at least $1000, Ricardo has to work at least 130 hrs.

Lastly, as a camp counselor:

60.80/8hrs=7.6

The rate as a camp counselor is $7.6 per hr. To be able to get at least $1000, Ricardo has to work at least 131.58 hrs ≈ 132 hrs.

Out of the 4 options, working as a lifeguard has the highest rate that is $7.7 per hour and only requires Ricardo to work at least 130 hrs to earn at least $1,000. (Option C)
