The sum of two numbers is 49 the large number is 9 more than the smaller number what are the two numbers

Let x be the smaller number

x + 9 is the larger number

Since the sum of the two numbers is 49,

x + ( x + 9 ) = 49

Now we can solve for x,

2x + 9 = 49

2x = 49 - 9

2x = 40

x = 20

If the smaller number , x is 20.Then the larger number, x + 9 = 20 + 9 = 29

Check: 20 + 29 = 49

Answer

The two numbers are 20 and 29
