Answer:

x =
-(1)/(2) y = 5.5

Explanation:

substitution method

3x + 7 = 5x + 8

subtract 3x from both sides

7 = 2x + 8

subtract 8 from both sides

-1 = 2x

divide each side by 2

x =
-(1)/(2)

substitute the x in either equation

y = 3(-1/2) + 7

y = -1.5 + 7

y = 5.5

or

y = 5(-1/2) + 8

y = -2.5 + 8

y = 5.5

Answer:

Y=3x+7

y=5x+8

3x + 7 = 5x + 8

-1 = 2x

x = -1/2

y = 3(-1/2) + 7

y = -3/2 + 7

y = 5.5

x = -0.5 ; y = 5.5
