6x - 4 y = -2 Equation (1)

-4x - 4y = -12 Equation (2)

Let us solve the system of equations using the elimination method.

4x + 4y = 12 (Multiplying on both sides of the equation 2 by -1)

+ 6x - 4 y = -2 (Adding the equation 1 to the last form of the equation 2)

-----------------------

10 x = 10 (Adding like terms)

x = 10/10 (Dividing by 10 on both sides of the equation)

x = 1 (Dividing)

Then, we replace x= 1 in the equation 1 to find y. Doing so, we have:

6(1) - 4y = -2

6 - 4y= -2 (Multiplying)

6 = 4y -2 (Adding 4y to both sides of the equation)

6 + 2 = 4y (Adding 2 to both sides of the equation)

8 = 4y (Adding)

8/4 = y (Dividing by 4 on both sides of the equation)

2= y

The answers are: x= 1 and y=2.
