Beginning from a depth of 35 feet below the surface, a whale can swim upward or downward. If thewhale swims upward and breaches the surface of the water, it can jump to a maximum height of 17feet above the surface. Complete parts a and b.a. Use an inequality to model the elevation r of the whale relative to where it started.A-35 +12 17B. - 35 +5> 17C - 35 +0317D. - 35+<17b. Solve the inequality. Explain the meaning in terms of the situation.The solution is ry The position of the whale relative to its starting positionfeet.(Type integers or decimals.)

Solution

Step 1

A) 35 feet below the surface = -35

elevation of whale relative to its position before upwards = +r

Maximum attainable height= 17

Hence the modeled equation for part A is

-35 + r ≤ 17

Option C

B) To solve the inequality, we have

\begin{gathered} -35+r\leq17 \\ r\leq17+35 \\ r\leq52 \end{gathered}

Hence the position of the whale relative to its starting point is no more than 52 feet
