Multiplication and division are related operations.Look at these examples.-2.4 = -82-4 = 8(-2) (-4) = 88=(-4) = -22-(-4) = -8-8• (-4) = 2-8 4 = -28 -4 = 2Think about the signs of the factors and the sign of theproduct in the multiplication problems. How do the signsof the numbers you are dividing relate to their quotients?

When we are multiplying or dividing two numbers, the resulting sign depends on the sign of the two numbers:

If both numbers are positive, the product or quotient is a positive number.

If both numbers are negative, the product or quotient is a positive number.

If one number is positive and the other is negative, the product or quotient is a negative number.

We can see this happening in the eight examples given.
