The equation will be written as the total money realised (raised ) = food + plate money ( x number of plates ) - the advertisement cost ( expenses )

The food money = $ 8 + $ 2 = $ 10 ( money for plate and food preparation )

The number of plate is represented by x ( since it is unknown )

The advertisement cost = $ 150

Total realised ( school gain ) = $ 2,400

Putting all together into the equation in the first paragraph, we have ...

10x - 150 = 2,400
