The ratio of yes votes to no votes was 5 to 6.

(yes)/(no)=(5)/(6)

If there were 9086 total votes, how many yes votes were there?

The total number of parts is 5+6 = 11

So, we can set up the following ratio

(yes)/(total)=(5)/(11)=(x)/(9086)

Where x is the number of yes votes, let us solve for x

\begin{gathered} (5)/(11)=(x)/(9086) \\ (5)/(11)\cdot9086=x \\ 4130=x \\ x=4130 \end{gathered}

Therefore, 4130 yes votes were there.
