Convert the mixed numbers (room dimensions)

\begin{gathered} 3(3)/(16)=3+(3)/(16)=(51)/(16) \\ 2(1)/(4)=2+(1)/(4)=(9)/(4) \end{gathered}

Use the scale to find the real dimensions

\begin{gathered} (51)/(16)in\cdot(1ft)/((1)/(8)in)=(51)/(2)ft \\ (9)/(4)in\cdot(1ft)/((1)/(8)in)=18ft \end{gathered}

Find the area

(51)/(2)ft\cdot18ft=459ft^2

The area is 459ft^2
