How much of the circle is shaded? Write your answer as a fraction in simplest form. 1/4 1/5

Let the area of the circle be 1 . Add the fractions for the shaded area


\begin{gathered} (1)/(4)+(1)/(5) \\ (5+4)/(5\ast4)=(9)/(20) \\ \end{gathered}

So the unshaded region is 9/20. Subtract the unshaded area from the total area to get the shaded area


\begin{gathered} 1-(9)/(20) \\ =(20-9)/(20) \\ =(11)/(20) \end{gathered}

So the answer is 11/20.
