Problem

Find the slope of the line, if it is defined. Graph the line.

2) Through (2, -6) and (-1,9)

Solution

For this case the slope is given by:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

And replacing we got:

m=(9+6)/(-1-2)=-5

The general equation for a line is given by:

y= mx+b

Since we have m=-5 we can find b using a point for example x=2 and y=-6

-6= -5(2) +b

And solving for b we got:

b= -6+ 10=4

And our equation would be given by:

y= -5x +4

Finally we can create the graph like this:
