Given the function :

f(x)=a|x|

As the coefficient a is outside the absolute signs

So, a may positive or negative

So, if a positive , the range will be = [0, ∞ )

And if a negative , the range will be ( -∞ , 0 ]

So, the value of a will determine the range of the function
