If we write these numbers on a number line the way to know which ones are greater or which ones are lower is to check how to the right ot how to the left are they.

For the first one -6 > -20:

-20 is more to the left than -6. This means that -20 is less than -6

-6 is more to the right than -20. This means that -6 is greater than -20

For the second one -1 < 0:

-1 is more to the left than 0. This means that -1 is less than 0

0 is more to the right than -1. This means that 0 is greater than -1
