Answer: 4 pounds, 1 ounce

======================================================

Work Shown:

1 pound = 16 ounces

1 pound + 6 ounces = 16 ounces + 6 ounces

1 pound + 6 ounces = 22 ounces

This is the weight of the almonds in ounces only.

--------

2 pounds = 2*16 = 32 ounces

2 pounds + 3 ounces = 32 ounces + 3 ounces

2 pounds + 3 ounces = 35 ounces

This is the weight of the walnuts in ounces only.

-------

total = almonds + walnuts + cashews

total = 22 ounces + 35 ounces + 8 ounces

total = 65 ounces

total = 64 ounces + 1 ounce

total = 4 pounds + 1 ounce

Side note: 4 pounds = 4*16 = 64 ounces

Solution

Almonds = 1 pound 6 ounces

Walnuts = 2 pounds 3 ounces

Cashew = 8 ounces

1 pound 6 ounces plus 2 pounds 3 ounces would total 3 pounds and 9 ounces. Then, add the 8 ounces of cashews to the 9. 9 + 8 = 17.

There are 16 ounces in a pound, so we now have an additional 1 pound and 1 ounce.

Therefore the totals weight is 4 pounds and 1 ounce.
