= O DATA ANALYSIS AND STATISTICS Mean and median of a data set The 6 students in Mrs. Brooks' class were asked how many minutes it takes them to get to school in the morning. Here is what they answered. 13, 10, 3, 5, 5, 7 Find the mean and median travel times for these students. If necessary, round your answers to the nearest tenth. a) In order to find the mean, consider that it is equal to the quotient between the sum of the given data, over the total number of data, just as follow:

\begin{gathered} mean=(13+10+3+5+5+7)/(6) \\ mean=(43)/(6)\approx7.2 \end{gathered}

Then, the mean is 7.2

b) Take into account that median is the value at the center of the ordered list. Then, you have:

3 5 5 7 10 13

Now, in the case in which there are two values at the center, the median is one half the sum of them:

median=(5+7)/(2)=(12)/(2)=6

Then, the median is 6
