According to the division property of equality, "when both sides of an equation are divided by the same non-zero number, the two sides remain equal".

Thus, when we divide the number of shapes in each pans by a 2, we have


\begin{gathered} \text{Left pan:} \\ \frac{number\text{ of shapes}}{2}=(2)/(2)=1 \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} \text{Right pan:} \\ \frac{\text{number of shapes}}{2}=(6)/(2)=3 \end{gathered}

Thus, the left pan has its number of shapes equal to 1
